Phil Williams played basketball for Tech from 1983-87, and his son James is now a senior at Virginia. James was a two-time state champ in the discus for Radford High School and two-time state runner up in the shot put.

James has had a good career at UVA. At the ACC Track and Field championships this week, he is competing, but is not seeded very high in either event (looks like about 15th in discus and about 8th in shot, if I'm reading the heat sheets correctly).

I know you'll ask, so: I just texted Phil, and Phil said that VT did not recruit James when James was in high school.
